Vice President, Minneapolis City Council

“I support Suyapa Miranda to represent Ward 5 on the St. Paul City Council. I know Suyapa will lead with vision and inclusion. Suyapa’s leadership and dedication to community are reflected in her history as Executive Director for St. Anthony Park Community Council, serving on the Metropolitan Council’s Transportation Advisory board, The Alliance board and now on MNsure’s board, among others. Representation matters. Community solutions matter. Equitable Development matters. Safe, livable communities matter. Suyapa has proven leadership in these areas.

I was a previous keynote speaker at Metropolitan State University’s Master of Advocacy and Political Leadership commencement ceremony and was pleased to learn Suyapa is a graduate of this esteemed program. This unique background in policy will be a great asset to the residents of Ward 5 and the city of St. Paul.”

Brooklyn Park City Councilmember
“I'm endorsing Suyapa for Ward 5 City Council because she is prepared to fight for all residents with a laser focus on equity in housing, health, educational access, and economic development. She is a community leader who exemplifies what servant leadership is all about.

While my journey to the Brooklyn Park City Council from global public health is not the same as Suyapa; however, mine could not have happened without a multigenerational, multiracial, and multicultural coalition of folks holding the doors of access open for me. With all the obstacles I faced as a new immigrant, I had to rely on government services that worked—and I am proof that good government policies like what Suyapa is proposing work to improve the lives of people.

With her intellect, strength, and empathy at the helm, Suyapa will work to make Ward 5 safe, prosperous, and livable. She has laid out a powerful and bold vision for the city that is inclusive of everyone’s lived experience and grounded in the belief that success should not be defined by race, gender, socioeconomic status or zip code.

Suyapa has been on the frontlines organizing and fighting for marginalized people throughout her career, she knows what it takes to ensure equitable outcomes, and so, I am proud and honored to endorse Suyapa Miranda for St. Paul City Councilmember Ward 5.”

"It is a pleasure to enthusiastically support Suyapa Miranda for St. Paul City Council – Ward 5. I have known Suyapa professionally for a number of years and I have seen her passion, dedication and servant-leadership in action. She has extensive experience as a member of the board of directors for several Minnesota non-profits and organizations, including the Metropolitan Council Transportation Advisory Board and the Minnesota Council of Latino Affairs. She currently serves as a board member of Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services and is the vice president for the Alliance for Metropolitan Stability. Suyapa earned a B.A. in modern and classical languages from University of St. Thomas and a master's in advocacy and political leadership from Metropolitan State University.

More important, however, are her life experiences as a woman, immigrant, and Indigenous person. Suyapa understands that everyone deserves to be treated fairly and afforded the opportunity to contribute to our society. She is a fighter, and will work tirelessly to make Saint Paul the capital city that we all want: safe, sustainable, equitable and welcoming.
